Why Hiring the Right Planner First Saves You Time, Money, and Stress

Over the last few seasons, I’ve noticed a pattern: I’m often the second planner couples hire.

By the time we meet, they've already been through the frustration of hiring someone else—usually someone who came in at a lower price point, but ultimately didn’t deliver. I’m hearing the same feedback: they felt unheard, unsupported, and like they were doing more of the planning themselves than they’d expected. Vendors weren’t being properly managed, communication was lacking, and the details—the heart of what makes a wedding run beautifully—were being missed.

And so they come to me, sometimes months into the process, a little tired, often behind schedule, and already having spent money they can’t get back.

This is the hard part about our industry: we’re selling an intangible service. You can’t hold a wedding planner’s skillset in your hand. You have to trust it. And when budget is a big consideration (as it should be), it’s tempting to go with the lower quote and hope it’ll all come together.

But here's the truth: a truly experienced planner can actually save you money.

We help you hire the right vendors the first time—people who show up, communicate well, and deliver what they promise. We spot red flags early and prevent costly mistakes. We advocate for you, manage expectations, and bring real solutions to the table when challenges arise (because they will). We’re not guessing or hoping—we’re planning. Strategically, intentionally, and with a calm hand on the wheel.

Hiring the right planner upfront means fewer contracts to cancel, less money wasted, and more confidence as you move through this major life moment.

So how do you know who to hire when you're planning your first wedding?

  • Ask thoughtful questions—not just about services and pricing, but about approach, communication, and vendor relationships.

  • Trust your gut—if it feels rushed, vague, or dismissive in the beginning, it likely won’t improve.

  • Look for experience, not just pretty photos—execution matters more than aesthetics.

  • Be wary of the “too good to be true” price tag—because it often is.

You deserve a planner who protects your investment, your time, and your peace of mind. Don’t settle for less—and don’t make the expensive mistake of hiring twice.
